ISRO's 20 satellites mission: 10 Key Facts

INTRODUCTION:

If USA has got NASA, India has ISRO which is regarded as one of the most respectable Space Agency in the world. It is known for launching Satellite and Orbital mission like MOM, Chandrayan etc at a cost lessor than a Hollywood movie.

Getting to know about ISRO's PSLV-C34 Mission:

India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, in its thirty sixth flight (PSLV-C34), launches the 727.5 kg Cartosat-2 series satellite for earth observation and 19 co-passenger satellites together weighing about 560 kg at lift–off into a 505 km polar Sun Synchronous Orbit (SSO). PSLV-C34 was launched from the Second Launch Pad (SLP) of Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota on June 22, 2016 at 09:26 hrs (IST). This is the fourteenth flight of PSLV in ‘XL’ configuration (with the use of solid strap-on motors).

10 Key Facts about this mission:

1. ISRO added another feather in the cap today using Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) by launching 20 satellites (1,288 kg) in one go at most cheapest price tag in the world - cost about half of what is incurred by other space agencies.

2. This launch was highest ever pay load in single go by ISRO.

3. IRSO’s 320-tonne PSLV C-34 carried 17 foreign small satellites from Indonesia, Canada, Germany and the US.

4. However the key satellite was a 727-kg Indian earth observation satellite called Cartosat, which had been designed to take high-resolution images.

5. Other two Indian academic community-built satellites, Sathyabhamasat and Swayam were also placed into orbit.

6. 13 US small satellites have also been placed in orbit. These include an earth imaging satellite made by Google-owned Company called Terra Bella. The 110 kg Google satellite called SkySat Gen- 2 is adept of taking very high resolution images and high definition video.

7. Indigenously developed India's Cartosat-2 Series is similar to the earlier Cartosat-2, 2A and 2B. The images sent by Cartosat satellite will be useful for urban, rural, cartographic, coastal land use, water distribution and other applications.

8. All these satellites are different from each other and have unique capabilities.

9. Russia currently holds the world record for placing the most number of satellites in a single launch. Russia’s Dnepr rocket launched 37 satellites in 2014.

10. As on date, ISRO had launched 74 satellites for foreign vendors from about 20 countries, earning about $ 100 million.

General Observation & Verdict:

Every Indian is proud of ISRO's accomplishment. It had a very humble beginning and today, it stands elite in Space Agencies around the globe. ReviewsToday is truly proud of ISRO's scientists for their hard work and dedication. We would love to see manned mission from ISRO some day.
