Review: Motorola Moto E (Gen 2) & (Gen 2 LTE)

Introduction


Motorola, the former cousin of Google has finally launched much anticipated budget smartphone called Moto E smartphone in two variants viz. the Motorola Moto E (Gen 2) and the Motorola Moto E (Gen 2) LTE. From the pricing standpoint the 3G unlocked version is available just for $119.99 (Rs. 7,400) and the LTE model is priced at $149.99 (Rs. 9,200).



Getting to know about Moto E (Gen 2) & (Gen 2 LTE)

The new Moto E (Gen 2) and Moto E (Gen 2) LTE will soon be available in 50 countries in Latin America, North America, Europe and Asia. Motorola also alluded that it shall be fetching some software features from its Moto X flagship like Moto Display and Moto Migrate. The phone is going to be a single sim phone but will be available in different color variants. The best part of Moto E is that will be operating on latest Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.




Build & Quality

Motorola has always been known for sturdy and well built phones. Infact the Moto E is not going to disappoint you at all. Let’s take look what lies in the hood :

Processor & RAM: Moto E (Gen 2) comes with a quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 SoC (with Adreno 302) ;  The Moto E (Gen 2) LTE sports a 64-bit quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC (with Adreno 306). Both phones come with 1GB RAM

Display: Both the variants features a 4.5-inch qHD (540x960 pixel) display with a pixel density of 245ppi, and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection along with anti-smudge coating

Camera: Again both the models bears a 5-megapixel rear camera and front facing VGA (0.3-megapixel) sensor.

Storage: 8GB of built-in storage expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB)

OS: This is the major USP of these two variants – both  of them run on latest Android Lollipop out of the box

Battery: Both the variants are powered by 2390mAh for daily usage

Connectivity: Moto E (Gen 2) comes with Bluetooth 4.0LE, Wi-Fi , GPS/ A-GPS, GLONASS, FM radio, and Micro-USB

Vital Stats: The handset measures 129.9x66.8x12.3mm, and weighs 145 grams

Colors: You can choose between Black or White base colour, with the choice interchangeable Motorola Bands (Golden Yellow, Turquoise, Blue, Raspberry, Purple, Red) and Grip Shells (Golden Yellow, Charcoal, Turquoise, Blue, Raspberry)

General Observation & Verdict

The new Moto E is a good phone at affordable price. It will directly compete with budget phone makers from Asia like Micromax, Lava, Spice & Xiaomi. The advantage of using Moto is upgradability to new avatars of Android. Moto devices are the first ones to receive upgrades. In nutshell 3.5 out of 5 is our rating.
