1. India added yet another feather to its Space program on Friday night by launching five British satellites into orbit from the Sriharikota space port
2. The lift-off at 9.58 pm was extremely successful, the space agency said
3. British Surrey Satellite Technology Limited hired an entire rocket for the first time along with rented premium space from the ISRO
4. The rocket weighed about 320 tonne (320,000 kilograms) & was as tall as 15-storey building
5. Launch comprised of a constellation of three disaster-monitoring satellites, two smaller experimental satellites
6. The tree DMC3 satellites, each weighing 447 kg, is stationed at 647 km Sun-Synchronous Orbit (SSO) using the high-end version of PSLV-XL
7. These satellites can image any target on the Earth's surface every day using simultaneous high spatial resolution and high temporal resolution optical Earth Observation
8. The British satellites weighed 1440 kg, making it the heaviest commercial launch ever to be undertaken by India
9. This is also 30th launch of India's PSLV or Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle
10. So far India has launched 40 satellites from 19 countries on a commercial basis
