Jeep Grand Cherokee: 10 Key Things You Should Know


The American SUV maker - Jeep is set for its India debut towards end of this month. Jeep is owned by parent company called Fiat which is already a very famous brand in India. However Fiat has not done well in SUV segment so far. To bridge the gap, largely anticipated model called Jeep Grand Cherokee may be launched but at a premium price.

10 Key Things to know about Jeep Cherokee

1) Jeep Grand Cherokee will be first debutante model to be launched in India by house of Fiat in SUV segment.

2) Grand Cherokee will be placed in the high end luxury SUV segment and will compete with the likes of Land Rover Ranger Rover, Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW, Volvo and the even the Audi Q7.

3) Grand Cherokee shall come in two variants viz. Grand Cherokee Summit and Grand Cherokee Limited. Additionally, Jeep shall also launch SRT version (the more performance-oriented) of the Grand Cherokee.



4) Jeep Grand Cherokee will be powered by a meaty 3.0-Litre V6 EcoDiesel engine that stirs out a maximum of 240bhp and peak torque of 570Nm. Transmission onuses are handled by an 8-Speed automatic gearbox that comes along with paddle shifters.

5) Grand Cherokee SRT, however will be powered by a colossal 6.4-litre HEMI V8 petrol engine that stirs out 468bhp and generates 630Nm of peak torque. Transmission will however be handled by an 8-speed gearbox like that of standard variant.

6) Both the variants (Jeep Grand Cherokee & the Grand Cherokee SRT) provides multiple options for all-wheel drive systems. The regular versions Limited and Summit use the Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Trac Active 4WD system respectively, the SRT uses the Quadra-Drive II 4WD system.



7) Jeep plans to launch ten new showrooms in India by the end of 2016 and the first two showrooms shall be launched in Delhi and Ahmadabad.

8) The Delhi dealership will only retail the Grand Cherokee SRT initially due to the diesel ban. However with Supreme Court’s recent verdict on allowing 2000CC + diesel car sale with Green Tax may allow it to launch other variants soon.

9) Jeep's will aggressively target South India with one showroom located in Kochi. Plan is to launch showrooms in other cities as well such as Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad.

10) Jeep Grand Cherokee will potentially be introduced at a starting price of over 70 lakh.
