Review: Renault Kwid

Introduction

One of the most interesting small car unveiled in 2015 is indeed Renault India's Kwid. The official launch of the car will be take place in September-October timeframe. Poised for extremely competitive pricing of Rs. 3 lakh, the Renault Kwid will compete directly with Asia’ most successful small cares like Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Hyundai Eon, 2015 Tata GenX Nano etc.




Getting to know about Renault Kwid

The Renault Kwid has been built on an  the CMF-A platform which had been jointly developed by the Nissan-Renault Alliance. This is an all new platform which shall also be featured in Datsun's upcoming small car. The mass production of this car will take place in Chennai-based plant & will serve Indian markets & neighboring countries as well. The small car surprising looks more like a crossover than a hatchback and kudos goes to its designers.



Build & Quality

Let’s get into the hood & see what does this car has to offer:

Engine: The car sports all new 800cc, 3-cylinder, petrol engine (jointly developed by Renault and Nissan)

Mileage: The car is expected to spell the best-in-class mileage, though Renualt didn't reveal the exact fuel-efficiency figure

Other Key Features: 
a) Optional driver-side airbag
b) Navigation system- 7.0in central infotainment screen.
c) Digital instrument cluster with chrome accents on the air-vents
d) Crossover-like design –SUV inspired styling, including plastic body cladding around its lower edges and a bold, aggressive front bumper



Apart from the above features, the Kwid will have one of the best ground clearance (180 mm) to tackle all kinds of roads


General Observation & Verdict

The Kwid is set to become a great hit for the price it is going to be offered at. The SUV styling with amazing ground clearance will differentiate it from its competitors. For first time car buyers, this could be a great buy in few months time. We all know how successful Duster has been for Renault & we hope this car will bring much awaited market pie to Renault.
