Review: Maruti Suzuki Celerio Diesel Variant

Introduction

Celerio petrol had been hugely successful model for Maruti Suzuki, and now it had launched its diesel version in the country for a price tag of Rs. 4.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The major USP of this car is that its being clubbed as world’s most economical diesel hatchback which will deliver 27.62km/l, Infact it beats own cousin Desire by churning out an extra kilometer (26.59km/l).




Getting to know about Celerio Diesel

The car is well about 800 cc range (precisely at 793 cc) powered by all aluminum built 2 cylinders & compact fuel distribution system along with a turbocharger. The new engine was designed after spending over Rs. 900 crore locally in India.



Build & Quality

Engine: The new Celerio diesel 800 cc hatchback throttles out a peak power output of 47bhp and 125Nm of maximum torque. Even when one would feel that engine capacity is small, this car churn out impressive higher torque per cc (0.16Nm/cc) compared to other Suzuki cars which comes with 1.3-litre multijet unit. At 89kg, the Celerio diesel has the lightest diesel engine in India.

Gearbox: Most of people would have expected an AMT version will have to wait for a bit. This version of Celerio come with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Company did not reveal as of now if there are plans to launch AMT version of this car.

General Observation & Verdict

Celerio Diesel is all set to rule diesel hatchback segment like its petrol variant. AMT in future will surely be a game changer. For the price & cheap maintenance costs, Suzuki is going to claim back its lost market share especially with Hyundai & Honda.
