Review: Asus ZenFone Max 2016 Edition

Introduction

Asus India has finally launched its first killer smartphone of 2016 – the ZenFone Max just under Rs. 10,000. It is up for pre-order via Amazon & Flipkart & would also be sold at Asus Exclusive Store. The major highlight of this phone is its non-removable battery – massive 5000mAh, which makes it first device in Indian Subcontinent of its kind available at that price. For layman, 5000mAh translate into 914 hours (38 days) of standby time and up to 38 hours of talk time. The ZenFone Max can even be used to charge other compatible devices.

Getting to know about Asus ZenFone Max

There were few smartphone which were launched last year with big batteries viz. Gionee Marathon M4, which was priced at Rs. 15,499, Lenovo Vibe P1, comes with a 4900mAh battery and was available under Rs. 16,000. Asus had started a new war in the smartphone segment by pitching in ZenFone Max at right pricing. More over Asus definitely enjoys a better brand image compared to other Chinese players like Gionee, Redmi & some of the Indian brands like Micromax, Lava, Celkon & Spice Mobile. Another big feature of this phone is the 13 MP PixelMaster camera has a f/2.0-aperture lens for high-resolution photos captured without shutter lag. Industry-leading Low Light mode uses pixel-merging technology to ensure up to 400% brighter photos at night or in low-light. The ultra-fast, laser auto-focus feature greatly reduces blurring and enhances image stabilization.

Build & Quality

Most important aspect of any smartphone is what lies inside its hood. ZenFone Max does not disappoint you here either.

Processor & RAM:  Dual Sim Smartphone is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor clocked at 1GHz coupled with 2GB of RAM

Display: It sports a 5.5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) IPS display

Camera:  Phone features a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash and 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

OS: Device comes with ZenUI 2.0 based on Android 5.0 Lollipop

General Observation & Verdict

It is surely a masterpiece i.e it is a perfect mix of right pricing, configuration, features & usability. Major USP of this phone as alluded above is its battery & price. If you are planning to buy a smartphone this year under a budget of Rs 10,000 – this phone is the best & safest bet.

We would rate this phone 4 out of 5.
