Review: Fiat Avventura- 'An adventurous cross-roader'

Introduction

Fiat Avventura, yes you are right, the new cross-roader from house of Fiat has been launched finally to take on Toyota Etios Cross or for that matter Ford Ecosport. One interesting USP of this car is the  big spare wheel cover. Looks likes Fiat designers wanted to give feeling of Ford Endeavour in small mini-suv which is a hatch-back after all.  But will it be a game changer on Asian surface? You may want to read about our content really carefully.

Getting to know about Fiat Avventura
The Side Looks of Avventura
When you take a glance at the car from front or rear, you will feel little let down as it looks like photocopy of “Punto Evo". Hangon, we have a surprise. In fact the Punto Evo borrows the look from the Avventura. Insiders to Fiat says that Fiat consciously crafted the design especially the face to the Punto Evo from reading & analysing visitors reactions who attended the Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year, and were floored by its look.

Build & Quality
The Avventura  =  Punto Evo! The front bumper to the tail lamps, everything is the same. The car looks sporty with tinge of aggressive hood that is complemented by a bumper which has a rugged-looking cladding clubbed into it.
The frontside look of Avventura

The crossover styling with a new flared wheel arches results into sexy looking 16-inch alloys.

If there are some similarities, there are few differences as well like, the Fiat Avventura is 20mm more taller compared to Punto Evo as a result of which, it’s gives impressive 205mm ground clearance normally given by high end SUVs like the Dusters & Scorpios of the world.

The Rear Sporty Look
During the start of this blog, we alluded the fact this is going to be a crossover and that is exactly what Fiat engineers would want you to feel though many of you will still feel that it is a compact SUV. Don't be surprised as Avventura sail over city potholes/speed-breakers with limited off-road drive with ease however beyond a certain level on hard core surfaces and really rough terrains like muddy roads the kick you get out of sheer driving SUVs likes Duster, Terrano & Scorpio is missing from this car.

While Fiat engineers are leaving no stones un-turned to revamp the suspension of Avventura. The presence of an anti-roll bar at the rear which translates into the elevated ride height and makes it a comfortable car on winding/zig-zag roads.
The Rugged Rear Look overall
Now let’s divert our attention to key aspect of the car which is the engine & interiors.

Engine: Avventura comes with a 1.3-litre 90bhp diesel motor which also powers its predecessors like Linea and Punto Sport. Though most of the diesel engines comes with pre-lag and Avventura is no different but the real kick runs down the adrenaline at 2100 and 3200 rpm making it perfect highway partner to hang around with.

Though it also comes in a petrol engine called FIRE but it’s the diesel engine which definite more fire.

One can expect a mileage of 20.5 km/l for the diesel and 14.4 km/l on the petrol Avventura.

Interiors: Avventura is a heterogeneously sporty from inside. Orange color lit dashboard is a copy of Punto Evo with some additional features installed like compass & a tilt-meter which helps in measuring the pitch and yaw which is an aviation terminology (The three critical flight dynamics parameters are the angles of rotation in three dimensions about the vehicle's center of mass, known as roll, pitch and yaw (quite different from their use as Tait-Bryan angles)).
The Sporty & hitech dashboard
For a common driver it may not be useful and we would have loved to see more useful feature like a rear parking camera etc.

The Avventura is also furnished with power windows, climate control, a rear AC vent and an audio system that supports MP3, CD and Aux-in.
The Night Lit Mode of the Dashboard
There is also an in built bluetooth however it is restricted to telephony only and you cannot stream an audio. The dash is pumped with two-tone part-soft touch treatment i.e. a mix of light gray and brown, a bold move in color selection by Fiat makers.

The Boot
The  boot space is decent and you can easily park two big bags or suitcases but there is a caveat – please be patient in case both your hands are occupied , you will first have to press boot button on your key followed by opening the tailgate, post which you will open the boot lid and slide the bags/suitcase inside. Total turnaround of around 180 sec which is a lot.

The head room is another key USP and there is enough leg-room at the back if you have long limbs, it is surely a great comfort on log drives when you want to stretch your legs a bit.

General Observation & Verdict

The Avventura is refreshing car which has its own identity but surely gives the rider a rich ride quality, fairly rugged chiselled Italian exteriors and fiat engines are known world over for their power & hence this cross-over car is poised to dent the sales of premium hatchbacks, some of the entry-level sedans and even compact SUVs like the Ecosport.
