Review: Panasonic Eluga S, with Blink-Play feature

Introduction

Panasonic has launched an octa-core phone today called the Eluga S also known as a Selfie phone. The phone is smartly priced under $170 (or Rs. 11,190). This phone will be an extension to their existing Eluga series. The smartphone will available to the Indian buyers starting next week. The phone is unique in a sense that it sports a Blink-Play feature that takes a selfie picture after an interval of 3 seconds when the user blinks.

Eluga S will focus redefining the design aspect and user experience of Panasonic phone. The phone is 7.9 mm thin and would come in black and white colour variants with stitched leather finish at the back. Panasonic will also offer a flip cover and a screen guard with the phone and the aim is clearly to innovate and create a niche for themselves and target young youths

Processor & RAM: Eluga is powered by 1.4 GHz MediaTek True Octa-Core processor & 1GB RAM

Storage: Phone comes with 8GB internal storage and can be extended upto 32 GB by microSD card

OS: Eluga S come with Android 4.4 (KitKat) out of the box , however do not know if it will upgraded

Camera: 8MP rear camera with LED Flash capable of 1080p video recording
and impressive 5MP front-facing camera for video chat lovers

Connectivity: Phone is loaded with 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS

Battery: Eluga S comes with a 2100mAh battery, decent enough for daily use

Other features: Eluga comes with Panasonic's Fit Home UI which, as per the company facilitates single hand operation. It comes with software features such as Kwik Lock( double tap to unlock), Music cafe, Pop-i player and Gesture control.

General Observation & Verdict


This is an interesting move from Panasonic and by smartly placing a phone between their budget & high end categories. Even from pricing perspective & festive season like Christmas & New Year ahead, Panasonic will definately look to create some room for themseleves amongst the established ones.
