In today’s hectic, cluttered lives, it’s all too easy for everyday essentials like your keys, wallet, backpack, or luggage to go missing — sometimes even stolen. To tackle that stress, Apple first introduced the AirTag in 2021: a compact, coin-sized tracker that helps you locate your items quickly and reliably using the Apple Find My network. Now, nearly half a decade later, Apple has unveiled the second-generation AirTag (AirTag 2) with meaningful upgrades under the hood that make finding your belongings even easier. (Apple)
🔎 Price
& Availability in India
The new AirTag 2 launches in India at a starting price of ₹3,790 for
a single unit, and Apple also offers a four-pack for ₹12,900
— roughly the same as the original pricing. The AirTag 2 is available to order
now and goes on sale from January 30, 2026.
📌 What Is the AirTag 2?
At first glance, the AirTag 2 looks much like the original: a tiny, circular
tracker you slip into a key ring, attach to a bag, or tuck into your wallet.
Once paired with your iPhone, it communicates via Bluetooth and Apple’s Find
My app to help you locate your lost items.
But inside, Apple has made some notable upgrades that significantly improve
performance and usability:

📈 Key Upgrades & Features
🧠 1.
Next-Gen Ultra Wideband (UWB) Chip
At the heart of AirTag 2 is Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband
chip — the same advanced UWB technology found in the latest iPhone 17
and recent Apple Watch models. This delivers up to 50% greater
Precision Finding range compared to the first generation, meaning you
can track items from significantly farther away with more accurate directional
guidance on compatible devices. (MacRumors)
📶 2.
Improved Bluetooth & Detection Range
Alongside UWB improvements, a new Bluetooth chip extends the overall
connectivity range beyond the original model. This means your AirTag 2 can
remain detectable from greater distances and in more varied environments.
🔊 3. Louder
Speaker
Apple has redesigned the internal speaker so that the AirTag 2 is about 50%
louder. A louder alert tone makes it easier to hear the tracker when
it’s hidden under cushions, inside bags, or in noisy spaces. (MacRumors)
📲 4.
Enhanced Precision Finding & Device Support
Precision Finding now works not just on iPhones, but also on Apple
Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Ultra 2, and newer models — letting you
track items straight from your wrist with haptic, visual, and audio cues
(provided compatible hardware).
🧩 5. Share
Item Location
A handy new addition lets you share the location of your AirTag with
trusted contacts, including select airlines for luggage tracking — a
useful tool when travelling. Over 50 airlines are already part of this program.

🧠 How AirTag 2 Works
Like the original, the AirTag 2 links to the Apple Find My app on
your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch. Once attached to an item:
·
Nearby Tracking: If the item —
and your AirTag — is within Bluetooth or UWB range, you can use Precision
Finding to see distance and direction on your device screen or wrist.
·
Far-Away Tracking: Outside of
direct range, your AirTag automatically leverages Apple’s vast Find My
network (of over a billion Apple devices worldwide) to anonymously and securely
relay its last known location back to you.
If you lose an item, you can also turn on Lost Mode, which
will notify you when the AirTag is detected by the network. Anyone who finds
the AirTag can tap it with an NFC-enabled phone to see your contact info and help
return it.

🔋 Battery & Durability
The AirTag 2 still runs on a user-replaceable CR2032 coin cell
battery that can last more than a year under normal use. It also
maintains IP67 water and dust resistance, just like its
predecessor.
👍 Verdict
While the AirTag 2 retains the compact design and familiar user experience
of the original, the significant internal upgrades — especially in tracking
range, speaker volume, and Precision Finding support — make it a worthwhile
evolution for first-time buyers and those looking to replace older AirTags.
If you’ve ever struggled to find mislaid keys tucked under clutter or a wallet
buried deep in a bag, the AirTag 2 offers a smarter, more powerful way to keep
track of what matters most.
